JACKLEG CABINS – provide a flexible and portable solution, new or pre-owned.
Jackleg Cabins
Jackleg cabins are a cost effective and very efficient way of overcoming a shortage of space.
Available in a various sizes and specifications, they are extremely adaptable and can be stacked where space is at a premium. They can also be joined together to form a complex of buildings.
A distinctive and varied range of finishes and specifications will be offered to you by our expert team, and all of the jackleg cabins we offer are impressively supplied pre-fitted with electrics & plumbing.
They make for an extremely adaptable and versatile way of creating additional administration space, canteens, dining rooms, locker rooms, drying rooms and sanitary or welfare facilities.
Definitions:
All Portable cabins are either correctly called Jackleg cabins available from various manufacturers or by the manufacturers name they are associated with, i.e. the brand name Portakabin Ltd of York. As the name suggests cabins have telescopic legs that can be jacked up and down. Before the advent of hi-ab craneLorries, all cabins were manually loaded and unloaded this way. Importantly, the legs also help to level the cabin on uneven ground.
Applications:
Jack-leg cabins come in a broad range of sizes and can be produced for a number of applications including offices, open plan or partitioned, canteens, training rooms, sleeper cabins, toilet facilities, shower rooms, and changing rooms and can come in various combinations such as office/store, office/canteen, office/ canteen/drying room etc. etc.
Credentials:Modular Building Systems jackleg cabins are designed and manufactured in accordance with the following British Standards and Codes of Practice.
BS 6767 Part 1 : 1992 "Transportation Accommodation Units" BS 6399
Part 1 : 1996 "Codes of practice for Dead and Imposed Loads" BS 6399
Part 2 : 1995 "Code of practice for Wind Loads" BS 6399
Part 3 : 1988 " Code of practice for Imposed Roof Loads"
BS 5268 Relevant Parts "The Structural Use of Timber"
BS 5950 Relevant Parts "The Structural Use of Steelwork"
All standard units have been designed to meet the following loadings:
* Roof Super Load 0.75KN/m2
* Floor Super Load 2.5KN/m2
* Wind Loading 0.79KN/m2
Standard Specification for Jack-leg office
Walls
Timber stud-work construction clad with 9mm WBP plywood (nailed and glued), fibreglass insulation, textured paint external finish, 12mm low maintenance cream vinyl plasterboard internal lining.
Floor
This is constructed with decking onto treated solid timber joists at 400mm centres, fibreglass insulation, 1.5mm vinyl flooring with welded seams.
Roof
A single membrane roof blanket bonded to a timber roof complete with fibreglass insulation and a 12mm low maintenance white vinyl faced plasterboard ceiling.
Electrics
Mains consumer unit c/w rcd and mcb's, 1.5m non-diffused fluorescent light fittings, 5amp light switch, 13amp twin switched sockets, 2kw thermostatically controlled convector heater wired back to a fused spur.
Windows
Anodised aluminium top opening single glazed window, 4mm clear float glass. Double-glazed available as an optional extra item. Manual & electricallyoperated roller shutters available as an optional extra item.
Doors
External ply flush door 1981 x 838 x 44mm hung in a painted timber frame with stained hardwood cill. Steel door and frame sets are available as an optional extra item.
Jacklegs
Steel telescopic jacklegs are fitted to assist loading and transportation.
Units can be supplied in customer specific external colours from the BS4800 colour range
Standard Textured Jackleg Cabin
A standard jackleg cabin has a resin textured exterior which resembles a rendered concrete finish although the cabin is made predominantly of timber. These are the most economical form of cabin available.

ExecutivePlastisol Clad Jackleg Cabin
An executive cabin has a steel exterior with generally a smooth finish externally, with the structure made from either timber or steel. These are the most popular form of jackleg cabins available and attract a premium in price against the standard jackleg cabin.
